Security Company Evaluation Checklist

Choosing a security company is about more than comparing prices.
Use this checklist to evaluate providers before making a decision.

1. Who Will Actually Be Protecting Your Business?

☐ Does the company have a clear hiring process?
☐ Are officers properly background checked and screened?
☐ What experience do officers have?
☐ Do officers receive ongoing training?
☐ How does the company handle call-offs and coverage issues?
☐ How does management evaluate officer performance?

Red flag: The company focuses only on filling shifts.

2. Who Will Answer the Phone When Something Goes Wrong?

☐ Who is my point of contact after signing the contract?
☐ How often will management visit my site?
☐ How are incidents communicated?
☐ How quickly does leadership respond to concerns?
☐ Does the company proactively provide updates?

Red flag: High-pressure sales tactics, but no clear system for communication once the contract is signed.

3. Are They Building a Security Program Around My Risks?

☐ Do they offer a trial period before signing a long-term contract?

☐ Does the company ask about my operations before making recommendations?
☐ Do they understand my industry and location?
☐ Is the proposed solution customized to my needs?
☐ Can the program adapt as my business changes?

Red flag: They quote you a price before learning about your company or visiting the site(s).

4. Are They Preventing Problems or Just Filling Posts?

☐ Does the company identify vulnerabilities?
☐ Do officers report concerns proactively?
☐ Does management recommend improvements?
☐ Are they focused on reducing risk, not just responding to incidents?

Red flag: The only conversation is about hours and pricing.

5. Would Their Clients Hire Them Again?

☐ Do current clients have long-term relationships with the company?
☐ Are references available?
☐ Do clients mention reliable staffing and communication?
☐ Does the company have a reputation for follow-through?

Red flag: Their online presence is non-existent, and/or they seem reluctant to provide references.

Before You Sign

A security company is responsible for protecting your people, property, operations, and reputation. Take the time to choose a partner, not just a provider.

Green Knight Security is a California-based firm founded by a former police officer, with 40+ years of combined experience across law enforcement, military service, and loss prevention. We meet you in person and match vetted, licensed guards to your site, 24/7.

I used Green Knight Security’s service for a two-day major event. Great communications and they do what they say they are going to do. I can’t recommend Green Night highly enough.
